Flashback: True Dragons, one has a child with a human, the child gets an elemental dragon she has not named. That child is Milim. A nation kills the pet to control her. She erases the nation. Ramiris and Guy calm her. The pet comes back wrong as Chaos Dragon. She seals it and becomes a Demon Lord. The episode is telling you the weapon was a friend first. Stay with that. You do not need extra light-novel genealogy beyond what the hour shows.
Do not kill the soul
Present: Rimuru helps. He knows the story. Milim will not execute her friend. A blast hits the castle; Shion, Gobta, Ranga, researchers get out. Rimuru has a plan that does not require destroying the soul. She trusts him. Maribel’s influence on the dragon dies with Maribel, which lets him reach the core. Milim finishes the body.
