Watch it. This is the villain-as-person hour before the city fight. If you skip, Granville is just an old man with an army. Heavy flashback. The present-day concert arrival is the frame. Story Recap
A month of bad news
A month ago Luminous learned Granville and Yuuki are aligned, which is disaster math for her. Deeper past: Granville once swore loyalty to her. Present: Rimuru and the students arrive in Lubelius. Hinata greets them. He brought Takt for the conference. Feast, kids to bed, then Luminous in a maid disguise briefs him on Granville’s scheme. The maid bit is the series refusing to let a doom briefing be only doom. The scheme is still doom.
Last meeting of the Elders
Granville and the Five Elders plan to finish Rimuru because their lifespans are ending. He notes Team Green Fury worships a demon they think is a god and posts people. Luminous tells Rimuru he is not really a saint: True Hero via a Hero’s Egg. Flashback: Granville, Maria, insect general Razul, a plan to delete Demon Lords, then an alliance when he saw Luminous meant no harm. At a wedding a demon uses a jealous saint; Maria is murdered. After the saint dies, Granville kills the demon and its monster. Maria makes him promise to protect mankind. That promise is the cancer. Luminous adds that Yuuki is with him now.
Leon on the scent
While Hinata and Rimuru watch the students, Leon feels Chloe. In his past she was like a sister. He hears Carrera is gone and the students are in Lubelius, distrusts the messenger as a spy, and decides to investigate. He and the clowns do not know Granville is aiming to delete Rimuru, Luminous, and Leon in one pile-up. Granville animates Maria’s corpse. That last image is the title turning rotten: the Hero of Dawn is using the dead to keep a sunrise that already failed.

Granville is scarier as a widower with a promise than as “final boss old man.” The show is asking you to understand him without agreeing to a three-Demon-Lord assassination. Yuuki riding that grief is parasitic. Maria’s corpse is the line you are not supposed to be okay with.
