Should You Watch It?
Watch it for Ramiris, the labyrinth, and the plan that might actually save the class. Episode 22 is a crawl with a thesis, not filler floors. Skip it and the summoning climax has no lock to pick. Lighter than war arcs, more mechanical than Episode 21. Sequential inside the Academy stretch.
Beginner-friendly? No as a start point. Watch from Season 1 Episode 1. This installment assumes you already know Tempest’s core cast — Rimuru at minimum.
Bottom line: sequential viewers should not skip “Conquering the Labyrinth.” Fight-only watchers may feel the talkier stretches; nation-building fans will not.

Story Recap
A medical theory with a dungeon address
Rimuru’s save idea is specific: house a superior spirit in each child so overflowing mana has a partner instead of a leak, the way Shizu survived Ifrit — except this time the spirit is invited, not jammed in by a demon lord. That distinction is the whole moral of the arc. Same technology. Opposite consent.
The Dwelling of Spirits is where you go to make that invitation. It is not a random labyrinth on a map. It is a medical facility that looks like a raid. The kids coming along is terrifying and correct. You cannot summon a partner for someone who is not in the room.
Same technology as Ifrit, opposite consent: invite a superior spirit as partner so overflow has a container.
Five short lives walking into a myth
The class enters as a party because that is the only formation they trust. Kenya wants to lead. Chloe stays close. Gale, Alice, Ryota fill the line. Rimuru is tank, teacher, and cheat code trying not to look like a cheat code. The early floors are tutorial danger: spirits, traps, the sense that this place has a landlord.
Shizu’s method is being copied in the only way Rimuru knows — field trip as care. The kids still do not have to love him. They have to live. That priority keeps the crawl from becoming a tourist episode.

Ramiris, landlord of the inside
Ramiris the fairy, demon-lord-class nuisance and spirit-world busybody, does not like uninvited medical experiments in her house. She sends a magisteel golem as the no. The golem is a raid boss with a petty administrator behind it. Magisteel as a material callbacks Dwargon and Kaijin without needing a lecture: this world has metals that argue with magic.
Rimuru versus a golem is a different fight from Charybdis. It is a lock on a clinic door. Ramiris watching is the comedy — tiny voice, huge authority. The kids see their teacher actually work for them in a language they respect: violence with a purpose.

Beretta’s body as a locked gate
The golem (Beretta, though the kids do not need the name yet) is not evil. It is policy. The Dwelling has rules about who gets superior spirits. Rimuru’s whole career has been talking past rules by being polite and then eating the problem if politeness fails. Here he has to clear a path without collapsing the hospital he came to use.
The fight is the mid-episode setpiece: magisteel, fairy commentary, a slime-teacher showing the class that adults can take a hit for them. That image matters more than the combo list. Shizu took hits for them in a different way. The rhyme is intentional.
Beretta is policy, not evil. Dwelling has rules about who gets superior spirits.
Rimuru running a dungeon for kids is the mayor brain pointed at grief instead of a famine, and the traps feel like lessons because they are.
Deeper, toward the pedestal
They win a way forward, not the cure. The deepest level — the summoning light — is next week. Ramiris is not done being a character. The kids are tired and a little more willing to believe the masked man is on their side. The labyrinth has done its job: it turned a theory into a place with a floor number.
Rimuru files Ramiris as “powerful, annoying, maybe convincible.” That file will matter later when Tempest needs a labyrinth of its own. For now the only dungeon that counts is the one that might let five children see adulthood.
A way forward, not the cure. Pedestal next week. Ramiris not done being a character. Kids tired and a little more willing to believe the masked man.

Story Analysis
Episode 22 is a dungeon crawl that refuses to forget it is a hospital run. Ramiris is the best new energy in weeks: comic, mythic, administratively petty. The golem fight is TV-sized and sufficient. The thesis — consenting spirit bonds versus Leon’s Ifrit atrocity — is the brain of the hour. Rimuru is trying to steal the technology of Shizu’s suffering and run it ethically. That is ambitious writing for a “labyrinth episode.”
Pacing is enter, resist, boss, proceed. Comedy is Ramiris. World-building: Dwelling of Spirits as a real location with a demon-lord fairy, magisteel constructs, superior spirits as a scarce medical resource. Emotional payload is the kids watching someone fight a door for them. If you wanted another Charybdis, you will call this smaller. It is smaller. It is also the point of coming to Ingracia.

The light is next. Structure as delayed medicine.
Labyrinth as a teaching tool is Ramiris-shaped even before she is the landlord, and Rimuru running a dungeon for kids is the mayor brain pointed at grief instead of a famine.
Character Analysis
Rimuru as dungeon teacher. Ramiris as tiny landlord with a golem. The five kids as a raid party who should not have to be one. Shizu as the method being rewritten. Beretta as the lock.
Yuuki is offstage, which keeps the hour from becoming guild politics. Tempest cabinet remains home. This is a field trip cast. Ramiris stealing scenes is allowed. The kids landing hits and taking fear seriously is required. Rimuru not treating the labyrinth as a loot piñata is the character win.

World Building
Dwelling of Spirits: extra-dimensional clinic/raid with a fairy demon lord as warden. Superior spirits as inhabiting partners that can stabilize mana. Magisteel golems as autonomous policy enforcers. Consent versus forced possession as the ethical axis of spirit magic.
Labyrinths as sovereign spaces, not just dungeons. Ramiris as proof that “demon lord” includes beings who look like mascots. The kids’ summoning damage is framed as fixable with the right partner, which is a huge setting claim. Next episode has to cash it or the theory is a lie.

Nothing here is later-arc homework. If a name or rule is only teased, it stays a tease.
Animation
Labyrinth architecture, spirit-effects, magisteel golem — a good 8bit dungeon look. Ramiris’s fairy animation is bouncy on purpose. Golem fights read as heavy metal versus slime. Kid-party staging is clear. Not a sakuga contest. Solid crawl visuals. The golem’s mass versus Rimuru’s small body is the joke and the threat.

Kagex animation score for this episode: 8.3 / 10 — peaks vs average cuts, not a sakuga clip ranking.
Music and Voice Acting
Score 8.2. 8bit’s TV mix leans on Elements Garden sting + silence. Japanese track is the reference for Rimuru’s dual register (cute slime vs office-brain). Dub timing varies by season; don’t wait on it to judge the episode.
Hidden Details
- Rimuru copying Shizu’s spirit-host method with consent is the arc’s moral rewrite of Ifrit.
- Ramiris treating the Dwelling like private property tells you spirits have a landlord, not a vending machine.
- The golem fight is a door, not the cure — the pedestal is the actual hospital bed.
Best Moments
- The plan, said out loud: invite a spirit, do not jam one in.
- Ramiris’s golem filling the corridor like a no from God in fairy form.
- The kids seeing their teacher take a magisteel hit for the class.
Pros & Cons
Pros: Specific to “Conquering the Labyrinth” — A dungeon episode with a medical thesis and a fairy landlord. Required crawl before the summoning light. Ramiris is the steal.
Cons: Requires earlier episodes. Viewers who only want climax fights may call the political / logistics scenes slow even when they are load-bearing.
Final Verdict
Kagex overall: 8.4 / 10 — A dungeon episode with a medical thesis and a fairy landlord. Required crawl before the summoning light. Ramiris is the steal.
- Story: 8.5
- Characters: 8.6
- Animation: 8.3
- Music: 8.2
- Enjoyment: 8.5
Ramiris immediately rules. The “this dungeon is a hospital” read is why I like the Academy arc. Golem was fine; the consent-versus-Ifrit thesis is the actual boss.
What to Expect Next
