Jinwoo potions the Koreans back onto their feet and finds Hae-In too far gone for the kit that just worked on everyone else. The army holds the ants. He beats the Ant King until it runs, then mutilates it for trying. The Elixir of Life fails her too. Something calls to him anyway, which is either hope or a worse kind of loot.

Should You Watch It?
Watch this if you want the king fight Episode 23 promised. It is Jinwoo versus the Ant King, plus the ugliest medical scene of the season: potions for the roster, Hae-In as the exception, elixir as a second failure, a voice as the last untried door. Skip it and the finale’s soul-heal has no setup. Brutal, sequential, high animation. Not a start-here. If healer deaths bounce you, this is still the hour that tries to undo a massacre and cannot finish the job. The chase-and-mutilation is the argument; the failed elixir is the cliff.
Beginner-friendly? No as a start point. Watch from Season 1 Episode 1. This installment assumes you already know Sung Jinwoo and the System.
Bottom line: sequential viewers should not skip “Are You the King of Humans?.” Rank-flex-only watchers may bounce on talkier stretches; dungeon-thriller fans will not.

Story Recap
Potions for a broken roster
Sung Jinwoo uses his potions to heal the Korean hunters. The man who arrived late shows up with a bag of undos. S-ranks who were just prey stand up again. That is the shadow monarch as field medic, which is a weird sentence and also the most useful thing he has done on this island besides existing. The raid gets a second minute.
Cha Hae-In is too gravely injured to be healed that way. The kit has a limit, and she is on the other side of it. The miner-dungeon S-rank who smelled an exception is now the exception the potions cannot touch. Jinwoo can restock a roster and still lose the one person whose danger made him break a 4v4. The island is not done being specific about pain, and the potions just proved it on the one body he wanted most.
Army on ants, king on Jinwoo
Jinwoo’s army holds off the ants while he faces the Ant King. Delegation again: Tusk and company on the horde, monarch on monarch. The nest wants bodies. The king wants a fight that matches last week’s teardown. Splitting the problem is the only way a solo player clears a population and a boss in the same hour. The shadows finally get the war they were hidden for.
This is what the porter lie and the castle grind were in service of, whether he likes the sentence or not. Jeju is not a C-rank babysitting job. It is an island-scale nest plus a king that already killed a healer and a Japanese gym winner. Jinwoo fighting the king personally is not pride. It is the only matchup left that is not “everyone dies in the swarm,” and the army is the only reason that matchup gets a private room.
The king understands it can lose
Jinwoo beats the Ant King into submission. The superpowered sequel-boss from the queen’s last act meets a hunter who levels in a way ants do not. Submission is the key word. This is not a clean instant kill. It is a beating long enough that the king can feel inferiority. For a creature that tore through S-ranks, that feeling is new. Fear is a raid mechanic now.
A-1 has to sell a fight that last week was a massacre as a duel this week. They do it by letting the king stop looking like a wipe condition and start looking like something that can panic. Jinwoo’s late arrival becomes the island’s new physics. The Associations’ fourth plan is irrelevant. The nest is in a one-on-one it did not schedule, and the king is about to learn what inferiority tastes like.
It runs; he does not let running be a strategy
Realizing its inferiority, the Ant King fearfully attempts to run away. That is a boss doing the Kim Chul math in reverse: abandon the fight, live. Jinwoo chases it down and mutilates it. The show is ugly on purpose. A running king is still a flying-ant apocalypse with a brain. Mercy is how you get a fifth Jeju. He does not offer it.
Mutilation after a chase is the Shadow Monarch without the porter bag. Viewers who wanted a clean superhero pose will choke on this, fairly. It is consistent. Jinwoo has been executing threats that do not stay down — Chul into Iron, Kargalgan into Tusk. This king tried to leave the instance. Jinwoo treats leaving as another attack. The threat is neutralized in the sense that it cannot pose as a hunter-killer anymore. Hae-In is still dying, which is the part the chase cannot fix.
Elixir fails; a voice does not
With the threat neutralized, Jinwoo tries to use the Elixir of Life on Hae-In. It does not work either. The castle’s medical loot, the thing that woke his mother, is not a universal key. Hae-In is too far. Two different recoveries fail on the same body. The man who just mutilated a king cannot loot a heal that lands. That is the hour’s actual boss: a limit.
In desperation, Jinwoo turns to a voice calling out to him. The episode will not credit the speaker yet. It credits the act of listening. After potions and elixir, a voice is a stupid last resort and also the only one left. Cliffhanger as a medical mystery, not a punch. “Are You the King of Humans?” can wait. The person on the ground cannot, and the bottles are empty in a way the castle recipe never prepared him for.

Story Analysis
Episode 24 is the king fight plus a failed hospital. Structure is clean: restock the Koreans, hold the swarm, beat the king, punish the retreat, fail Hae-In twice, listen. The mutilation will be the scene people argue about. It is not random cruelty. A fleeing Ant King is a sequel. Jinwoo has spent two seasons watching “we’ll handle it later” become graves.
The Elixir of Life failing is the potion plot refusing to become a win button for every wound on the show. Mother was a recipe with a dungeon. Hae-In is a raid corpse-adjacent who needs something the castle did not sell. The voice is the third medical system in one episode, which would be silly if the first two had not already failed on camera.
Pacing is fight-heavy and then suddenly quiet on Hae-In, which is correct directing. If the king died and everyone hugged, Byung-Gyu’s death would be cheap. Instead the healer’s absence is the whole last act. Jinwoo can raise armies and still not be a hospital. Required, nasty, and the reason the finale is a soul problem instead of a punch problem.
No film-only detours. This is the TV king, the TV elixir miss, the TV voice. Stay for the voice. It is not a gag sting.
Character Analysis
Sung Jinwoo is medic, general, duelist, and then a man out of items. Healing the Koreans is the late-arrival apology in liquid form. Mutilating the running king is the part of him that will not leave a sequel alive. Failing Hae-In is the part that still cannot buy every outcome. Cha Hae-In is almost entirely a body this hour, which is grim and purposeful — the plot is whether she stays that way.
The Ant King gets character through fear: inferiority, flight, getting caught. That is more interesting than a silent raid icon. The Korean S-ranks exist as people potions can still save, a control group that makes Hae-In’s failure louder. The voice is a character who has not shown a face yet. Byung-Gyu’s absence is the loudest offscreen person in the room. No speeches. Just a king that runs and a hunter who will not let running work.

World Building
Potions can restore Korean S-ranks on Jeju and still fail a body that is too far gone. The Elixir of Life is not a universal revive; it can fail where the mother’s potion succeeded. Shadow armies can hold a nest’s leftover ants while the hunter duels the king. An Ant King that understands inferiority will flee rather than die proud — and flight is still a strategic threat if the king lives.
Mutilation as neutralization is this episode’s ugly rule: a running boss is not a cleared island. A voice can call to a hunter after medical items fail, which is a new interaction sitting at the cliffhanger. Nothing here is later-cour homework beyond that voice. The map is Jeju as a nest under new management, Hae-In as the wound the loot table cannot reach, and a king that learned fear too late.
Nothing here is later-arc homework. If a name or rule is only teased, it stays a tease.
Animation
Peak A-1 for the cour’s action: Ant King duel, chase, mutilation, army-versus-horde as background war. Then they drop the volume for Hae-In and the failed elixir so the medical scenes have faces, not just gore. The king’s fear needs acting, not only size. TV, yes — some cuts — but this is the sakuga appointment the massacre hour charged. The voice at the end is sound design as a cliffhanger, which is cheap if the fight had not already emptied the item bag.
Kagex animation score for this episode: 9.5 / 10 — peaks vs average cuts, not a sakuga clip ranking. A-1 Pictures TV: readable action, some stills, the setpiece they actually spent on.
Music and Voice Acting
Score 9.0. LiSA’s “Reawaker” (feat. Felix) is the S2 door; TK’s “Un-Apex” is the bruise after the raid, not karaoke homework. Japanese track is the reference for Jinwoo’s quiet register versus raid shouting. Dub timing varies; don’t wait on it to judge the episode.
Hidden Details
- Hae-In failing both potions and elixir is how the show keeps Byung-Gyu’s death expensive.
- The Ant King running is intelligence, not comedy — it understood the matchup changed.
- The voice only gets a turn after the castle’s medical loot is proven insufficient.
Best Moments
- Korean S-ranks standing up to potions while Hae-In stays on the ground.
- The Ant King trying to leave and Jinwoo refusing to let a sequel fly away.
- The Elixir of Life failing, then a voice anyway.
Pros & Cons
Pros: Specific to “Are You the King of Humans?” — The king fight, ugly and complete, plus a heal that will not land. Watch it. The finale is a voice because this hour spent every bottle.
Cons: Requires earlier episodes. Viewers who only want climax fights may call the System / guild logistics slow even when they are load-bearing.
Final Verdict
Kagex overall: 9.3 / 10 — The king fight, ugly and complete, plus a heal that will not land. Watch it. The finale is a voice because this hour spent every bottle.
- Story: 9.4
- Characters: 9.2
- Animation: 9.5
- Music: 9.0
- Enjoyment: 9.3
The mutilation is hard to watch and I think that’s the point — a running Ant King is next season’s problem if you blink. The elixir miss on Hae-In actually scared me more than the fight. I needed the voice to be real, not a fake-out.
What to Expect Next
Next week the voice has a name, a shadow healer stands up, an ant learns to talk, and Jeju’s leftover problem does not stay on the island.
