What the anime rarely pauses to explain
Aerial mages are a military branch with jewels, doctrine, and promotion math — not a HUD. Tanya Degurechaff thrives because she treats combat like corporate risk. The Rhine is attrition first. Ranks and paperwork are the joke inside the meat grinder. Being X is a forced-faith experiment, not a kind goddess gift. Child-soldier imagery is the temperature. If that is a hard no, trust it.

- Season 1 (12 TV). Skip the 6.5 recap. Desert Pasta is a later special, not required.
- Then The Movie (2019). Season 2 is after the film.

Season 1 — Devil, Type-95, 203rd, Arene, Revolving Door
Episode 1 drops you into finished-product Tanya on the Rhine with Viktoriya. Episode 2 is the salaryman / Being X origin. Type-95 is a miracle that only works if she prays — she calls it a curse. Officer academy: she sells Zettour a rapid-response mage battalion and accidentally gets command. The 203rd is born in a month of ugly training, then Dakia (no enemy mages, a factory taken with a child’s radio voice). Norden, Being X in a corpse, Allied Kingdom observers. Fjord: Tanya bayonets Anson Sioux; Mary hears it on a radio in Arkansas. Arene is the legal-war crime hour — Tanya’s thesis, Grantz on the trigger. Operation Revolving Door: V-1 insertion, traps, encirclement. Sioux comes back with Being X in him and dies hard. Parisee falls. Tanya wants Brest; HQ says no. Truce fails. Free Republic from Tunis. Mary enlists with a blessing. Africa next.
The Movie — Moskva, Mary, Tiegenhoff, Salamander
Federation war. Moskva raid because interned mages cannot fly. Mary duels Tanya and begs God. Tiegenhoff railway hub, human-wave assault, Drake pulls Mary out. Tanya talks herself into rear-area research and gets the 8th Kampfgruppe Salamander as the bill. Watch it before Season 2.
Season 2 — aired through Episode 6 only
Salamander on the eastern front: incompetent new arms, snow convoys, artillery that works too well. Partisans are ethnonationalists, not communists; Zettour “makes friends” with occupied regions. Ildoa tries to mediate; Tanya’s legal artillery and loyal-soldier act convinces the observer the whole Empire is that cold; Berun rejects a white peace and orders Iron Hammer. Mages ride tanks to hide signatures; HQ dies; politicians still will not stop. Zettour is exiled east. Andromeda decoy: Tanya cannot refuse. Weiss goes down. Decoy: Zettour and Grantz break a line; Visha decoys Mary; Tanya and Zettour end back-to-back on the ground. Stop. Purgatory had not aired when this tab locked.
