What the anime rarely slows down to explain
- The walls are a cage with a history, not a setting skin. Maria, Rose, and Sina are class geography: outer districts die first; inner districts buy safety with silence.
- ODM gear is a job skill, not a power level. Blade steel, gas, and cables fail; “Humanity’s Strongest” still needs a squad and a plan.
- Titans are weapons and people. Early horror sells mindless predators; later arcs force you to ask who built the predator and why.
- Military branches are ideologies. Garrison holds the status quo; Military Police protects the powerful; Survey Corps pays blood for maps.

Season 1 — walls break, vows form
Eren, Mikasa, and Armin lose Shiganshina and enter the military machine. The 104th becomes a found family that includes future knives: Reiner, Annie, Jean, Sasha, Historia (as Krista). Levi, Erwin, and Hange turn survival into an expedition for truth.
Season 2 — the enemy was already inside
Beast Titan pressure, Wall Rose chaos, and identity bombs rewrite classmate trust. The show stops being “kill Titans outside” and becomes “who among us is the breach?”
Season 3 — kings, coups, and the basement promise
Royal bloodline politics, Military Police rot, and Historia’s unmasking collide with the Survey Corps’ hunger for the basement answers in Shiganshina. Expect heavier body counts and commander-level gambles.
Final Season — the world beyond the walls
MAPPA’s Final Season flips the camera to Marley, warrior training, and a global cycle of revenge. Zeke becomes central ideology + artillery. Eren’s path stops being a simple hero vow. Specials / last chapters finish the war the weekly cours set up — treat ending discourse as optional until you finish.

- Paths / Founding metaphysics are the late-series “why Titans exist” layer — use after Final Season, not as Season 1 homework.
